Birds in the air
Another sure sign that spring is in the air is bird activity. The above shot is a blue heron photographed in a large nesting site near my home. These large birds are fascinating to watch as they build nest, court one another and carry on the species.
Being so close to my home, I've sneaked out a few times this past week to capture some expressions of the birds in there nests.
During a recent morning snow, I spotted a cold heron waiting for spring and SUNSHINE to arrive.
As I'm apt to do, I explored the expression of these birds with a variety of black and white images.
With the nesting birds, can spring be too far off??

Spring Arrives
For those of you living in northern Ohio, it doesn't feel like spring. Temperatures in the 30F range and lows expected this week down to upper teens reminds us the old man winter still has an icy grip upon us.
But there are signs of spring coming out. Two of the early wild flowers around here are out - Skunk Cabbage and Snowdrops.
Skunk cabbage always remind me of sculptures. The shape and graceful lines feel like they have been sculpted from the earth.
Although not native to the United States, the snowdrops are a small and gentle reminder that the wild flowers of April, that we all love so much, are coming. These gentle plants are native to Europe and were introduced by travelers. Over the years, they 'escape' from planted gardens and can now be found in low lying, wet, woody areas.
Enjoy your spring.

Necessary Wires Update
Some of you may recall that last summer I started a project called 'Necessary Wires'. I spent about a month in August getting the project started. As happens, my interest fizzled out on new ideas rather quickly and I put the project aside.
Recently, as my mind wondered for new photographic ideas, I began to 'see' the wire project coming back to life.
After finding some new areas to explore, my enthusiasm began to grow and finally last week I got out for a nice session.
This new session was capturing ideas around an electrical sub station. There are lots of wonderful patterns and graphic ideas to gather from these impressive structures.
The continuation of the theme of man altering the sky in order to develop this necessary infrastructure to our modern culture is the projects main objective.
You can view the ongoing project at my photography web site:
