Favorite Images from 2013

A good photography friend of mine from France (Kristel Schneider) recently published a fun blog from her photography efforts in 2013 entitled:

Her photo work is very beautiful and inspirational for myself.   Well worth looking at her work and visiting her web site :

Inspired from Kristel's beautiful images, I decided to put my favorites from 2013 for others to see.   Some of these I have posted in my blog and some you may not have seen.

So here are my favorites from 2013.

For those who have been counting, that is twelve images.   Well I just couldn't stop at 12, and we just had the year 2013 come to a close, so I thought it would be appropriate to have a BONUS 13th image.   This happens to be maybe my favorite landscape that I photographed in 2013:

Wishing all of you a joyous, prosperous and loving 2014!!!!   Cheers to nature and more images to share.

Fall Color Continued

Our fall color is starting to wind down.   It has been a longer than usual spell of colorful trees and the oaks are just starting to turn there deep reds and browns.

Been trying to see as many color spectacles as I can.   The images above and below are from the South Chagrin Reservation of the Cleveland Metro Parks.

From Indigo Lake a sunrise with the beautiful fall colors lighting up the morning trees.

After the sunrise, I walked to a beautiful spot of sumacs in flame red color.   Decided to get a different perspective of the fall display.

While exploring the beautiful woodland scenes, capturing the feel of the intimate fall color amongst the trees is always fun.   The following from Brecksville Reservation of the Cleveland Metro Parks.

This past week, we had an semi-unusual snow during our peak fall color.   It was a lot of fun to try and capture as many scenes as I could with snow and fall color before the snow melted away.  From the Bedford Reservation of the Cleveland Metro Parks.

The final image from a Tinkers Creek overlook in Cleveland Metro Parks.   Trying to capture the snow amongst the fall color again.

Fall Color is Underway

The prettiest time of year around my home is underway.   Fall color is always a special treat.  Crips air, and beautiful colors in the trees makes fall the prettiest time of year.

The above image was from a beautiful sunrise this past weekend.  Bedford Gorge Overlook is the easiest location to enjoy the sunrise and Saturday morning it was at its most beautiful.

This scene is in Brecksville Reservation of the Cleveland Metro Parks.  Usually a beautiful display of early fall color.   This scene peaks in the first week of October.

These last 2 images are from a beautiful small waterfall in South Chagrin Reservation of the Cleveland Metro Parks called Sulfur Spring.

More fall color to come as we hit the peak in the next 2 weeks.

Last weekend was the final bust of fall color.   The final set of images features the beautiful Blue Hen Falls in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

The final image is a reprise of my efforts to capture a large landscape of the Cuyahoga Valley in fall color:

Fall Color Explosion

The fall colors are coming AND going very quickly.    Literally everyday the colors change.  A fun challenge to capture as many locations as you can.   Here are some ideas I've been lucky enough to share over the past week.

From Bedford Reservation in the Cleveland Metro Parks.

Here are a few from a wet afternoon in the Chippewa Creek Gorge of the Brecksville Reservation in the Cleveland Metro Parks.

Finally some fall color displays from Brecksville Reservation of the Cleveland Metro Parks.

Don't wait too long, you might just miss the beautiful display.   Colors are changing faster than ever.

Belated start of fall

Indigo Lake Sunrise

The fall season is upon us here in Northern Ohio.    Probably my favorite time of year.  The air is cool, the leaves are changing into the beautiful colors to treat the eye.

After a very harsh, dry and hot summer, the changing of the colors was very much in doubt.   Luckily, mother nature has decided to grace us with an early display that promises color riches over the next few weeks.

The above image is from my favorite location in September for a colorful sunrise.  The beautiful Indigo Lake in the Cuyahoga Valley National park has a spectacular display of golden rod and the air can be ripe with beautiful morning clouds.

As the air changes, so does the resident deer.   The white tailed deer begin the mating season and it can make for a beautiful display of deer among the changing fall colors.

Finally is the start of the gran show itself - COLOR int the leaves.

The early signs are very nice.   So lets hope the color continues and I can find enough time to capture the scenes of fall.

Enjoy your fall season.

Award Winning Image

Columbia Run Leaf Swirl
The above image recently was selected by the Cleveland Plain Dealer as 2nd place in the 'Close to Home' category for there annual photo contest.

You can read the little article in the newspaper here:   Cleveland Plain Dealer Photo Contest

The photo contest has thousands of entries from the entire spectrum of talent (all amateur).  It is a great honor and a wonderful treat have myself and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park recognized by the newspaper.

My new photography blog

Welcome to my new photography blog.

In the past, I have created an email newsletter for keeping people in touch with my photography.  Moving forward, and joining the 21st century, it is time to create this new blog to help share what and where my camera and thoughts continue to take me.

You can 'subscribe' to new blog postings by adding your email address at the bottom of this blog - just hit the "Follow my photography blog by email"  to the right.      Then as I post comments (short or long), you'll be on the email list for new updates.

One neat feature of blogging is the ability for readers to add comments.   You can do that below under the 'Post a Comment' box

I still have my web site with images (both old and new).    You can find my web site under the 'Web Links' section on the right hand side of this new blog.

Now that you have the basic idea of the layout, you are probably wondering what I've been doing.

Well the photography continues in earnest.   The fall season brings about the most beautiful time of year in northern Ohio with fall colors and crisp air all around you.

Before I show you some new images, I'm very excited to share my newest 'photography' hobby - video!!!!

In August I bought a used camera that can photograph both still images and videos.   It is a lot of fun to explore nature and people with the newest 'toy'.      I have a few videos I've created that I hope you will enjoy.

The first is a video featuring late summer and insects that live near me.   Being fascinated by insects, the video gave me a great opportunity to share some time with them along with learning more about video.

Note about viewing the video - If your web browser shows a picture, you can hit the play button within the picture to play the video, or if you click on the title for the video, that will take you to web hosting site Vimeo to watch the videos via there web site.

This first video I call 'Intimate Summer Morning'.   Music by Chet Atkins.

The second video is called ' Water: Lifeblood in the Valley'. Music by Natalie MacMaster.

Last are a few new fall images.

First is from an exploration I did on a small waterfall that was shared with my by National Park Ranger Rebecca Jones during the spring.    I revisited the location late one fall afternoon and was delighted to find fresh fall leaves floating in the 'bowl' below the falls.   I love leaf swirls and this was a perfect opportunity to play with long (10" - 15") exposures to create the abstract colors at the base of the waterfall.

Last is the beautiful Bridal Veil Falls in the Bedford Reservation of the Cleveland Metro Parks:

You can always view my latest photography work at my website:

So there you have it - my first blog on the web.   Let me know what you think.   Let me know ways to improve the content or layout.   Being new to this, there will be growing pains - so be patient with me!!!

Enjoy your fall!!!
